That\u2019s the question that researchers will address in a new clinical trial.<br \/><br \/>The Medical College of Georgia is looking to find out if stem cells from umbilical cords can help kids with cerebral palsy, according to UPI.<br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.upi.com\/Science_News\/2010\/02\/15\/Cerebral-palsy-stem-cell-trial-begins\/UPI-57571266270159\/\">http:\/\/www.upi.com\/Science_News\/2010\/02\/15\/Cerebral-palsy-stem-cell-trial-begins\/UPI-57571266270159\/<\/a><br \/><br \/>A lack of oxygen to the brain, as well as brain damage, cause cerebral palsy. <br \/><br \/>The college is touting its study as the first such trial to be approved by the Food and Drug Administration. The research will involve 40 children, 2 to 12. Their parents have core blood stored at the Core Blood Registry in Tucson, Ariz.<br \/><br \/>There have been studies on animals that indicate that stem cells did help damaged brain cells recover and even replace dead brains cells.  <br \/><br \/>Stem cells, found in umbilical cord blood, change into different kinds of cells around the body.<br \/><br \/>It remains to be seen if they will provide a real aid to those with cerebral palsy.
